In Greene County district court Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 43, of Jefferson was sentenced Dec. 21 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Lawrence was sentenced to two days in jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge. A charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed. Lawrence must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $1,250 and $184.03 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Lawrence was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed with no court costs assessed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Roger Allen Burnie Jr, 37, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for three years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Burnie was fined $1,250 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. Two counts of illegal possession of prescription drug were suspended. Burnie must pay restitution not to exceed $1,200 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Bryce Randal Delaney, 46, of Jefferson pleaded not guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. A trial date was set for Jan. 30.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: James Leon Cunningham, 49, of Jefferson, possession of weapon in correctional institution; Lyle Lee Olesen, 59, of Coon Rapids, operating while intoxicated; Thomas Gordon Shearman, 76, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Jared Michael Ramold, 33, of Ogden, OWI- second offense; and Osvaldo Rafael Ruiz Huaracha, 28, of Perry, OWI- second offense.
